Make a recycled CD Coaster

Somewhere in a cabinet I've been stockpiling those bad/scratched Cd's and DVDs over the years. I bet you have a pile just like it. The pile's gotten pretty big and I needed a way to cut it down. That's where today's easy as pie, even if you've got no artistic talent you can make this, craft comes in: recycled coasters.

Materials

Directions

Add glue to the printed/label side of the CD or DVD, and glue two together so that the mirrored surfaces face up. Add rubber bumpers to the bottom of the coaster. Let the glue dry. You're done! Easy no?

Tip for the obsessive (like me): I like to sort the Cd's by color. DVDs have a purple/blue sheen that I like, home burned Cd's have a more on the silver/green tint, and cd's from the store are usually pure silver. Mix and match as you please.

This is how my coasters turned out.

I think that the 'feet' on the coasters make them look like they have a purpose instead of Cd's lying around by accident. Of course, if you can't find any suitable 'feet', the glued Cd's alone will make decent coasters.

If you do a search you can find a different ideas on how to make CD coasters. You can paint them, glue on patterned paper (just seal it after), or sew up some absorbent felt sleeves. You can even find CD coaster crochet patterns - some of them are really quite pretty. So don't let your Cd's end up in the landfill and never by a coaster again.
